In 5 steps, you're going to be on-air with Singular overlays. Let's get started!

1 - Navigate to your Dashboard

Navigate to the Singular Dashboard: and open up your Account folder in the left panel.

3 - Open your new Template into Studio

Studio is a Control Application that you will use to operate your live overlays. To open up your newly downloaded template into Studio, double click on it.

4 - Learn beginners tips for operating overlays in Studio

4A. Edit the contents of your overlays to prepare for your show. Do this by clicking on whatever overlay you want to edit in the Playlist Panel and then changing the elements you wish to change in the Overlay Editor

4B. Take your overlays on and off-air by clicking on the play and pause buttons. Live overlays will appear in the Output Window. The Preview Window is designated for viewing overlays that you have selected in the Playlist Panel.

Make sure to frequently use the blue "Update" button in the Overlay Editor if you are not seeing any changes to your overlay contents that you update on-air.

5 -  Combine your overlays with your live (or pre-recorded) video in OBS

For the purposes of this Beginner's Guide, we are going to be working with OBS, production software that you can download for free, in order to combine your newly prepared overlays with your live video.

If you are already using another encoder in your production workflow, click here to learn how to use Singular overlays with the software of your choosing.

5A. Download OBS if you haven't already done so.

5B. Navigate over to Studio and copy your Output URL from the clipboard button in the upper right corner.

Copying Output URL from "Share" menu

5C. In OBS, create a brand new Singular overlay layer by selecting the "+" button in the Scenes panel and selecting "browser". Then paste in your output URL and adjust your resolution settings.

For resolution settings, we recommend typing in 1920 for the width and 1080 for the height.

Adding a Browser Source, Pasting Output URL, Adjusting Settings

5D. Lastly, you will want to add your video layer in OBS underneath your Singular overlay layer. Prepare your live video layer by adding a "Video Capture Device" within the plus "+" button in the "Scenes" panel. Or drag and drop a pre-recorded video into the "Scenes" panel. Finally, hit command or control + f to fit your video layer to frame (or you can drag the corners to resize).

There you have it, your overlays are on top of the video of your choosing. Now you can send this content "sandwich" to any live stream destination of your choosing by selecting the "Start Streaming" button in the Controls panel. Now you're ready to operate your overlays in real time within Studio.

Select "Start Streaming" Option in the OBS bottom right "Controls" panel

If you aren't seeing any of your Singular overlays, check two things:

  1. Make sure your Singular overlay layer is on top of your video layer within OBS
  2. Make sure you have an overlay taken on-air in Studio
